Every day, Militzer & Münch Germany dispatches several groupage trucks to Tunisia and Morocco. These groupage shipments are mostly handled at the Eichenzell location. The exports from the Maghreb region are unloaded here, and the newly filled trailers are sent back. Militzer & Münch handles mostly groupage and part load transports door-to-door via road.
“The Maghreb states are one of the core markets for Militzer & Münch, which is why we want to further strengthen our market position there,” said Dr. Lothar Thoma, CEO M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG. “With our experienced teams in the Maghreb, in France, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey as well as with the cross-sector Business Development Team we are also optimally positioned in the future to offer individually tailored transport solutions for different industries.”
Investing in the Maghreb
Over the past years, the Militzer & Münch Group invested large sums in the Maghreb region. The group strengthened its local footprint with the construction of a new customs terminal in Tangiers, Morocco in 2016, an area of 10,000 square metres, and a new office in the Tunisian port city of Radès in 2013. After over 40 years of business activity in the region, the course is thus set for new growth.
Maghreb – a high potential market
The goods consolidated at Eichenzell for the Maghreb do not only come from Germany, but also from adjacent procurement countries such as Poland and Finland. For the Militzer & Münch locations in Italy and France, the Maghreb plays a major role, too. 170,000 – that is the number of transports the Militzer & Münch business sector South West Europe / Maghreb handles per year. The sector comprises Militzer & Münch organisations in France, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia and a partner in Algeria, and shows an increase in the goods traffic between the countries every year.
“The demand from customers in Germany and Switzerland for transport services from and to Algeria is growing,” said Dr. Lothar Thoma. This development is seen for instance in the fields of consumer goods, products for the automotive sector, the aviation and pharmaceutical industries. “The goods that are shipped every day from Germany and Switzerland to the Maghreb states or vice versa from there to the two European countries are handled via our location in Genoa, Italy, in Spain via our partner in Algeciras and in France via our branch office in Marseille.”
