BLG has taken over Fortragroup with retroactive effect from January 1, 2016. The two companies signed the contract in Bremen. The transaction represents a major milestone in the BLG strategy of systematically expanding its forwarding services division.
Fortragroup comprises the forwarding companies Logfortra Logistic, Forwarding & Transport and Infortra International forwarding & Transport. The group’s core competencies lie in international shipping and air freight plus overland transports, project business, customs services, and logistics systems. Founded in Niederkrüchten, Germany, in 1997 by Alexander Opszalski, Fortragroup has eight branches in Germany. More than 40 specialist employees are available for direct contact with customers.
Christian Marnetté, Managing Director of Forwarding at BLG said: “Over the past few months we’ve worked hard on systematically expanding our national and international forwarding services. They perfectly complement the activities of our Automobile, Contract, and Container divisions. We want to show customers that we can offer a complete service package. Now, with the integration of Fortragroup, we’ve taken a major step further.” BLG has operated its own forwarding division in Bremen for decades. The division is a major player in overland as well as overseas transport.
Alexander Opszalski, up to now Managing Partner, is leaving the Board of Management: “However, I’ll be acting as a close advisor of BLG for a transitional period. Together we’ll ensure the smooth continuation of our longstanding customer and employee relationships.”
The transaction is still subject to approval by the antitrust authority.
