The Aachen based software provider Inform has announced the implementation of a central multi-compound application of their automotive logistics solution Syncrotess for Italian logistics provider BLG Logistics Solutions Italia. With this comprehensive system, BLG can now control all vehicle turnovers across ports and inland compounds.
The system provides full transparency of all logistical processes and allows the provider to know where and when a car has been delivered, and on which compound it is located at any given time. Before the introduction of Syncrotess this knowledge was either distributed across countless Excel spreadsheets or concealed in data silos on individual sites, making it simply unusable in practice. In order to fulfil its function as a logistical data hub the software is equipped with interfaces to all the important data systems so that customer and partner systems can be simply linked to the central Syncrotess control point.
Not only is the central planning and management of vehicle turnover optimised but all the supplementary services are documented to enable customer invoicing.
Since Inform runs the system in Saas (Software as a service) mode, the implementation process is extremely quick, with the connection of a compound to the system taking no longer than five days. Within a period of two months, from November to December 2015, BLG Logistics Solutions Italia and Inform were able to link different Italian locations to Syncrotess.
In implementing this system Inform is addressing both a new need and a new target group. For the most part, logistics firms normally use Syncrotess Vehicle Distribution only for the intelligent management of the compounds. However, this version introduced by BLG will also allow the processes across multiple sites to be centrally controlled, tracked, automated and documented.
Since implementation involves little effort the Vehicle Distribution System is viable even for logistics companies whose compounds are too small to warrant the introduction of their own dedicated servers with the full compound management functionality.
Syncrotess for vehicle distribution in detail
Syncrotess Vehicle Distribution System controls the whole logistics chain for the distribution of new cars. It is the first fully integrated Vehicle Distribution System on the market to map the complete pathway of a finished vehicle from the factory to the dealer with complete transparency. It does this in real time, with each part of the process in an optimised sequence and all procedures comprehensively synchronised.
Syncrotess will not only manage and optimise distribution, but also goes a step beyond that by handling the strategic and detailed planning of complex, worldwide finished vehicle distribution networks. In doing so it uses mathematical procedures to work out optimal transport distances according to available hubs such as production plants and port or inland terminals. The strategic planning capability can also give the option of running through different scenarios, and it can be used for the siting of new factories or yards.
The Syncrotess Yard Management Module controls both car parking and loading and coordinates all in and outgoing transports. To achieve optimal planning the software combines berth planning – that is, determining where ships berth in harbors – with yard planning. In this way the loading and unloading routes of vehicles can be minimised. At the same time Syncrotess uses a ‘Yard Optimiser’ that controls rolling freight to fully utilise a terminal’s capacity and ensure that the transportation of vehicles moving onward is done without excessive shunting. With this planning information Syncrotess calculates the ideal deployment of yard workers who receive their individual rosters with unloading sequences on a daily basis.
Haulers who either deliver vehicles to, or fetch them from the terminals are linked to Syncrotess via a web portal and EDI (electronic data interchange) so that they are integrated wirelessly into the yard management processes.
