Global logistics service provider, Yusen Logistics has been awarded a contract for a total supply chain solution for NEUE HALBERG-GUSS (NHG).
The contract is for the movement of engine blocks from the manufacturer in Germany to the production plant of a leading American car manufacturer, based in Moraine, Ohio, as well as the provision of a closed loop supply chain back to Germany for the re-usable packaging media.
The Yusen Logistics solution involves collections from NHG’s plant in Saarbrücken, stockholding and container build, then movement to the port and seafreight to the US. Yusen then provides a total supply chain in the US, with storage in Cincinnati and onward movement to the factory gate. Yusen Logistics is also handling all export and import Customs formalities in both Germany and the US.
This solution is based around rail and sea. With only 50km of the total distance travelled being road freight, this innovative yet robust supply chain offers a carbon neutral solution to these international flows.
As part of the solution, a significant investment has been made in returnable plastic pallets, and the round trip flows of these back to NHG in Germany form an important element of the solution.
As a European market leader, NEUE HALBERG-GUSS GmbH supplies automotive and engine manufacturers all over the world with its products, in particular engine blocks, crankshafts and cylinder heads.
Mario Cavallucci, Managing Director, Yusen Logistics (Germany) said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this contract by NHG. Yusen Logistics has a strong understanding of the complex and individual requirements of the automotive industry. With our tailor-made, international logistics solutions and our industry know-how, we are supporting NHG in optimising its supply chain to better serve its customers.”
